Tips for beating the heat at a summer meet!
Hello again Marlins!
This Saturday is expected to be hot, hot, hot! We are planning on starting on time and hope to be able to be done before it gets too hot outside. That being said, here are a few tips to keep your swimmer cool and healthy as well as families and guests.
- drink plenty of water the day before the meet
- make sure you let your swimmer know to be sipping water THE ENTIRE meet. Not just when they are thirsty and not chugging and then going a long time inbetween drinking more. If you wait to be thirsty you may already be dehydrated
- eat a healthy, light but sustainable breakfast
- make sure your swimmer has plenty of water or refillable bottle
- Frozen towels kept in a cooler can be used to cool off
- cooling towels can help lower body temperature and are easy to use
- personal fans are a good way to help stay cool
- keeping your swimmer in the team area, shaded, and not running around more than needed will help from overexertion
- we have plenty of coaches, jr coaches, and older swimmers who can assist with capping of younger swimmers. Please DO NOT have your swimmer capped and just sitting in their cap. The swim caps do not allow the body to release heat from the head
- SHADE!! if you have a canopy please bring it! The more shade we have the cooler it will be!
Of course if you have any other tips please feel free to share in the group chat so everyone can see!
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming!
Jenn
