🏊♂️💙 MARLINS — WHAT A SEASON! 💙🏊♀️

Marlins families and swimmers,

What an incredible ride this season has been! With Meet 5 officially wrapped, our Montpelier Marlins finish the summer 3–2, marking this our best season since 2017! That is something every swimmer, coach, and parent should feel proud of.

Saturday’s meet against the massive Tacoma Park DC team — who have over 100 swimmers on their roster — was a true test of grit. And our Marlins rose to the challenge with multiple first‑place finishes and the kind of determination that defines who we are. Against long odds, our swimmers showed heart, speed, and teamwork that made this final meet special!

This season has been fast and furious, but I hope each swimmer takes a moment to reflect on how far they’ve come. The improvements, the confidence, the friendships — that’s what makes summer swimming special.

Coming up this week:

● This Tuesday is our annual Swim‑A‑Thon, the most important fundraiser of the year! Every sponsor helps support our team. From equipment to coaching resources, to the experiences that make this league so meaningful. Encourage your swimmer to gather sponsors, swim their personal best, and show just how far they’ve grown! Whether they’re breaking their record from last year or discovering their potential for the first time, every lap makes a difference!

● Be on the lookout for divisionals entries, which should arrive Sunday night or Monday, to see if your swimmer qualified. Only divisionals swimmers will practice next week. Our Divisionals will be on Saturday, June 18, at Northridge Swim Team, 7801 Quill Point Dr, Bowie, MD 20720.

● End-of-The-Year Banquet! That evening, June 18, we’ll return to our home pool for our End‑of‑Year Banquet, where we’ll celebrate every accomplishment, every milestone, and every splash that made this season one to remember.

 ○ Time: Sunday June 18, 6pm

○ Place: Montpelier Pool

○ What: Bring a dish and celebrate your swimmer

○ Swimmers will have free swim after the awards ceremony  

And as we close the book on this unforgettable season, take pride in every stroke, every improvement, and every moment of Marlin spirit! You showed what dedication looks like. And you showed the pride, determination, and unstoppable spirit of the Marlins!

Dear Marlin Families,

Congrats team on the last dual meet of the season!! We’re so proud of all the hard work today showing up in the pool. It was exciting to see so many best times for the season, and so many close races! The constant grit, energy, and team spirit make us proud to be Marlins! Thanks to everyone who made the trek out to TP for the meet and to help us close out the season in a big way.

Huge thanks to Greg Tinch, Nicole Shao, and Chris Childers for helping to get all the swimmers to their events on time. It was a chaotic meet and you all stepping in to help was a huge help!!

From the Meet Manager / Team Rep

A loud, hot, and occasionally confusing morning—but our volunteers delivered another well‑run, hard‑fought meet. Thank you for the coordination leading up to today; the final email count with Takoma Park to get everything squared away was forty‑four. Worth it.

Clerk of Course:Mr. Tinch, in his first outing as COC, handled a tough job with calm and discipline. He managed the chaos well, supported throughout by two impromptu assistants—Mrs. Shao and Mr. Childers—who stepped in without hesitation and stayed for the duration. Strong work from all three.

Lane Lines:Mr. Guerra (Amiyah’s father) tackled what was easily the loosest lane line I’ve seen in a competition pool. The host had essentially given up on it. He worked with me, diagnosed the issue, and fixed it properly. Outstanding initiative.

Our senior swimmers deserve credit as well. Their vigilance with lane lines this season mirrors last year’s attention to backstroke flags. We check them every meet now, and it shows.

Scorekeeper:Melissa is a force at the data table. She runs the position by the numbers, with precision and authority. She is one of the few who will stop a meet, halt the music, gather officials, and correct procedural errors on the spot. That level of accountability matters.

Lane Timing:Mr. Fred Wells stepped in as a last‑minute lane timer when one of our volunteers had to leave early. Thank you, Fred, for answering the call without hesitation.

Swimmers: We had several swimmers out or leaving early, but those who competed showed grit and discipline. Well done.
